1992 Kemetner Gruner Veltliner Ried Karl

$39.99
1992 Kemetner Gruner Veltliner Ried Karl
A new shipment has finally come in after we sold out everything from our supplier earlier this year. A very intriguing wine that is still surprisingly fresh and young. A bottle that is worth a shot and an excellent value for a wine with this much age. This was a big surprise for us and showed just how age-worthy Gruner Veltliner could be. See our original offer below.

Kemetner family has a 375-year history in Austria and has been producing fine wines for 11 generations. Reid Karl is an excellent Grunner Veltiner that has been in the bottle at the property for over 25 years and was recently released. This is the oldest example of Grunner Veltiner that we have ever tried, and it is still so fresh and pure. We tasted this side by side with the current 2018 release, and it was amazing to see what these wines are capable of, 1992 is only a tinge darker than the 2018 and almost just as fresh. It is rather remarkable how well this aged gaining complexity with more time in the bottle. The '92 has a lovely floral perfume and enticing honey notes with lemon zest and wild herbs. The extra age in the bottle has also given this a creamier, more opulent mouthfeel that young Guner is often missing, and while there is a slight botrytis note buried in the nose, this is vibrant and bone dry. Karl Reid is a delicious bottle of wine with 28 years of age that does not pass the forty dollar mark and is truly impressive, must-try.
