Francois Carillon's Bourgogne Blanc is fantastic, from almost 60 year old vines, the Carillons have been growing grapes in Puligny Montrachet for 500 years. Francois's wines are right there with his brother Jacques in terms of quality, coming in at a slightly lower price point. We love the approachability of this Bourgogne Blanc with the appeal for the classic Burgundy drinker and the domestic one with its delicious rich character while still carrying the torch of classicism. See our original offer below!
We have been looking for more excellent values and were able to get more of this fantastic Bourgogne Blanc after blowing through our previous cases. As many of you know, the 2017 white Burgundy vintage was a perfect one. Francois and his brother Jacques split the Domaine holdings about ten years ago, and now both make wine independently. Francois was the vineyard manager when he and his brother worked together, so needless to say, he knows you can’t make great wine without great fruit. He also works sustainably in all his vineyards. His Bourgogne Blanc comes from a lovely parcel outside of village Puligny Montrachet and is made just like Francois other wines seeing mostly older oak barrels and some tank. The wine is spot on and delivers exceptional quality for the price. Some nice press below for this wine as well from Burghound and the Wine Advocate.
This white Burgundy deal is too good to pass up!
Tasting note by Wine Advocate (William Kelley) "Carillon's 2017 Bourgogne Chardonnay bursts with scents of pastry cream, ripe lemons and white flowers. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and succulent, with a rich but nicely defined profile. This is a gourmand, generous Bourgogne that will drink well in its youth."
Tasting note by Allen Meadows “Outstanding top value! Notes of petrol, pear and apple introduce the nicely dense, vibrant and super-fresh flavors that possess slightly better depth and persistence if, somewhat surprisingly, not quite the same refinement. Even so, this too is quite good for its level and a wine that would make a good all-around house white."
