2013 Trimbach Riesling Cuvée Frédéric Emile

We were able to get a small reload of this fantastic aged Alsatian Riesling from Trimbach. This is a rare find with very few bottles left swimming around the market. However, we were able to get a few cases of this gem directly from the Trimbach cellars, which are some of the only bottles available in the USA right now. A top choice for Alsace, this is fantastic, and the time spent in the bottle has truly benefitted this wine, and we think it is not worthy of a higher score than the one below. One of the last chances to claim one of these bottles, this is not one to miss for fans of Riesling.

Here is a lovely back vintage gem from our favorite Alsatian Domaine, the Cuvee Frederic Emile, one of the best buys reaching almost the same level of quality as the Clos St. Hune, in this case just a point behind, for five times less money. Trimbach’s Cuvee Frederic Emile is comprised of two grand cru vineyards Geisberg, and Osterberg; both are farmed sustainably, with the average vine age being 45 years. The soils in the vineyards are a mix of marl, limestone, sandstone, and fossil-flecked Muschelkalk composition. It goes without saying that the Frederic Emile is an incredibly mineral-driven wine with bright notes and a wonderful underlining salinity made as an homage to Frederic Emile, who put Domaine Trimbach on the map in 1898. 2013 was an excellent vintage with small yields, and the Rieslings performed exceptionally well. The 2013 Frederic Emile is a great buy and can pair well with shellfish, caviar, spicy food, white meat dishes, or foods with rich sauces. This can be approached now or cellared for longer if desired with no issue. Our favorite wine from Trimbach for the money 2013 has since disappeared from the market, and currently, we have the only bottles available in the USA.

Vinous (Ian D'agata) 93+ points! "White peach and mint aromas are complicated by delicate herbs and chlorophyll on the enticing nose. Intensely flavored and deep, conveying a saline freshness to the stone fruit and herb flavors. Finishes pliant and long, with firm minerality and a suggestion of gingery spices. This Frédéric Emile is more influenced by the Geisberg than the 2014; it's more showy and concentrated than the 2014 Frédéric Emile but perhaps less refined. It'll be great fun to compare these two FE's side by side in ten years time."
