2008 Champagne Pierre Legras Champagne Brut Millesime Idee de Voyage

$59.99
2008 Champagne Pierre Legras Champagne Brut Millesime Idee de Voyage
We had a group of clients open one of these at a Dinner and immediately send us an email asking for more. I was curious, so I checked in again and grabbed our last bottle to try. It was absolutely astonishing, and without a doubt, the best Grower Champagne I have had this year. It was mind-blowing to think that this is only 50 dollars. If you love Champagne, this is what you want to drink; there is no better bottle of Champagne for the money, and this honestly smokes a lot of bottles that go for two or even three times more.

Part of the Legras Family legacy in Chouilly, Pierre Legras, was a contemporary of Dom Perignon in the 17th century. Now in their 11th generation of family winemaking, Vincent Legras holds the reins of one of Chouillys oldest family wineries. Much like RL Legras, Pierre Legras is a master with Chardonnay. Vincent works the vineyards organic and sustainably. Vinification took place in 30% oak and stainless steel tank before being bottled in 2009 and spending ten years on the lees. 2008 was disgorged within the last year with a perfect dosage of 3g/l that compliments the juice's richness and acidity. This is a tremendously complex Champagne with steadfast minerality. Notes of lemon pith, white peach, almond, and black currant leaf with some swirling, the oxygen coaxes out brioche, licorice, honey, toast, caramel, pears, and hazelnut. The palate is fresh and creamy with very soft, refined bubbles. There is very focused acidity and attack leading into chalky minerality and saltiness that linger with tons of dry extract on the finish. A Stunning bottle of Blanc de Blancs, we rarely, if ever see Pierre Legras in the USA, and the 2008 checks off every box required for fantastic Champagne. The 2008 Idee de Voyage gets our top nod for the best grower Champagne we have tasted this year!
