Burgundy producers known for their white wines seem to be very underrated for their red wine production. This is indeed the case for Vincent and Sophie Morey. Vincent, one of the two sons of Bernard Morey, has fashioned an incredibly easy-to-drink 2019 Red Burgundy from his village vineyard in Santenay called Les Hates. Those of you who liked his 2015 Santenay Beaupaire will enjoy this wine as well, for it is very Pinot Noir-like but still has the tension and vineyard character we love true to the Burgundy region. Aromas of red and blue fruits, minerals, graphite, and baking spices. The palate is lush and fruit-driven with impeccable balance, no hard edges, and lovely notes on the finish of dried currants, cherry, and blood orange. Enjoyable now, this should age over the next few years effortlessly, though it probably won't last that long in your cellar since it's showing so perfectly! Lovely, but limited.
