2014 Pierre Gimonnet & Fils Champagne Special Club Grands Terroirs de Chardonnay

$69.99
2014 Pierre Gimonnet & Fils Champagne Special Club Grands Terroirs de Chardonnay
Gimmonet has dominated the Special Club category for years and is one of the few producers that goes through the rigors of having multiple Champagnes enrolled in the club. While this is not one of their single village cuvees (they make a Chouilly and Cramant Special Club, too), it is an all star, and one of the best Champagnes they produce. This Cuvee shows the precision and serious side of Gimonnet and will be a bottle that will truly blossom with cellar time. We have a bit more of this still in stock at this excellent pricing.
The Current special Club Release from Gimmonet, one of the top growers in the Cote des Blancs. Gimonnet sets the bar in terms of Special Club Bottlings, 100% Chardonnay from the Grand Cru villages of Cramant, and Chouilly with a small percentage from the Premier Cru village of Cruis. The Special Club de Terroirs contains Gimmonnet's oldest vines, two of which were planted in 1911 and 1913, with the rest well over 40. Gimmonnet is also known for its organic practices in the vineyard, and the Special Club is the ultimate representation of the detail of Gimmonnet Champagne. 2014 is shaping up to be a fruit-driven vintage, but Gimonnet's expertise and old vines provide great depth and mineral expression bringing extra layers of complexity. An excellent Special Club Champagne from this masterful father and son duo. We were able to get a few more cases of this fantastic bottle which has acquired two great scores since our last offer.

Wine Advocate (William Kelley) 94+ points! "Disgorged in May 2019 with four grams per liter dosage, Gimonnet's 2014 Brut Special Club Grands Terroirs de Chardonnay has turned out beautifully, wafting from the glass with aromas of citrus oil, crisp orchard fruit, white flowers and fresh yogurt that are still quite youthfully reserved. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with racy acids and an elegant pinpoint mousse, it's seamless and complete. Still tightly wound after its recent disgorgement, it will reward patience."

Antonio Galloni 94 points! "The 2014 Brut Spécial Club is a blend of fruit taken mostly from Cramant, with Chouilly and Cuis in supporting roles. The breadth and power of Cramant comes through loud and clear. Readers will find a potent, at times austere, Champagne that needs a bit of time in the cellar to soften. The Special Club does not offer the immediacy of the Chouilly or Cramant Special Clubs, but it has plenty of its own allure. Dried pear, spice, crushed flowers and chamomile are some of the aromas and flavors that linger on the imposing finish. Dosage is 4 grams per liter. Disgorged: December 13, 2019."
