They can be a little assertive when young, but these are made and meant to be cellared for 20 years or more. It was a vintage that needed plenty of time in the cellar before one could even consider opening but are finally starting to blossom out of its youthful austerity and will continue to develop for decades if desired. The bouquet is very, very deep and currently very closed, as it reluctantly offers up a stunning mélange of cherries, blood orange, smoke, gamebirds, a great base of complex soil tones, an exotic touch of mint, orange zest and mustard seed in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and rock solid right to the sappy core, with beautifully tangy acids, ripe, substantial tannins and absolutely brilliant length and grip on the still very primary finish. California's Central Coast is the lovely climate for growing world-class Chardonnay, and we are super stoked to be able to offer the wines from Paul Lato. Paul Lato is arguably the best wine-maker from the Central Coast, consistently meriting huge scores over 95 points. The Le Souvenir Chardonnay is an absolute blockbuster and is one of the most consistent and exceptional Central Coast Chardonnay's. The Costanti family’s history in Montalcino dates back to the 1500s, and they were among the earliest families to help define Brunello's identity and bring the region's wines into the modern world. Today, the estate farms 12 hectares of organically worked vineyards at roughly 400 meters elevation, where galestro soils, high-altitude freshness, and careful farming all contribute to the complexity and balance that define the wines. Current winemaker Andrea Costanti has often emphasized the impact that vineyard elevation and organic farming have on aromatic complexity, and after tasting mature bottles, it is easy to see why. The 2015 vintage was a dream year for Brunello, giving ripe fruit, depth, and polished tannins, and Costanti’s version is one of the estate’s most significant modern efforts, combining the generosity of the vintage with the structure, elegance, and restraint of a truly traditional house. It is also especially rare to find great Brunello in half-bottle format, making this a very compelling way to access one of Montalcino’s top classic producers in this fun size. To be able to get a bottle of Clos Vougeot at this pricing is very uncommon, and it's one of the beautiful aspects of the wines here. While they are a deal, they still perform and are quite impressive for the price. It's one of the many reasons our clients keep coming back to Charles Noellat. The Clos de Vougeot here is a rare wine and isn't made at every vintage, but we have some of the only bottles available in the world right now at this fantastic pricing. 2015 is a fantastic red burgundy vintage, and this is easily one of the best examples of the Clos Vougeot from Charles Noellat.
