2017 Domaine Louis Moreau Chablis Grand Cru Valmur

$79.99
2017 Domaine Louis Moreau Chablis Grand Cru Valmur
One of the best deals for Grand Cru Chablis on the market right now, the Valmur from Louis Moreau, is a fantastic deal for a wine of this caliber. 2017 is one of the top examples of this cuvee of all time from Louis Moreau, and we have some of the only bottles available in the USA at this low pricing. A fantastic buy for the category, this is showing well now and will continue to age for many more years.

Louis Moreau is part of this great lineage of Chablis winemakers and the famed Moreau family. These are classic Chablis wines that are built on mineral definition rather than trying for opulent fruit. It is one of the more traditional styles that has remained a constant in Chablis, and while others might look to experiment, Louis Moreau sticks to their guns.
We have an excellent back vintage of Valmur from Louis Moreau, which has been released ex-cellar, and as we have said many times, the 2017s for Chablis and White Burgundy are excellent and showing very well now. The Valmur is one of the best wines of the vintage from the Domaine sourced from old vines planted between 1966 and 1968 planted on Chablis' famed pure Kimmeridgian soil. This is a fine example of Valmur and the first vintage where no oak was used, which gives a little more energy to the richness of this wine. It's one of the top buys of the vintage right now for Grand Cru Chablis, and we have friendly pricing on some of the only bottles available in the USA.

Decanter 94 points! "All of Louis Moreau's Valmur vines face south, so this wine can be quite rich. For the first time in 2017 it was unwooded, which has added more zip and life to the waxy, fresh and leesy palate, with stone fruit sweetness and a tangy finish."

Wine Enthusiast 94 points! "A funky, earthy tinge on the nose of this wine also references fresh chalkiness and something lactic. The palate wipes any funkiness away with spankingly fresh, ripe and juicy stone fruit that is pervaded by zesty citrus. An attractive texture already reveals chalkiness and a core of mouthwatering pithiness. Lovely now (but decant), the wine will show more of its stony depth with bottle age. Drink now-2035"
