Ryusei Junmai Daiginjo Bekkakuhin 720mL

$89.99
Ryusei Junmai Daiginjo Bekkakuhin 720mL
We have a limited amount of this fantastic Kimoto-style Sake from Ryusei in stock at this low pricing. It's a powerful and traditional bottle that captures what classic Sake is and should be. One of our first loves with true traditional Sake, this is typically allocated and can be a challenge to get, so don't miss out on these last bottles!

One of our favorite Sakes, this is the first time in years we have been able to offer the Bekkakuhin from Ryusei again after supply chain issues. One of the first Sakes we ever offered next to the YK35, we discovered this after tasting our way through a supplier event many years ago. There was some tasty stuff, but out of everything, the one that jumped out the most was the Ryusei Bekkakuhin Junmai Daiginjo (Ryusei is the producer; Bekakkuhin the bottling name; Junmai Daiginjo is the highest classification of Sake). Founded in 1863, Bekkakuhin, meaning special product, is one of Ryusei's top Sakes and is only released once every August after being kept at the brewery in the village of Takehara for two years. This is a powerful Sake, with a sweet polish that starts at the tip of the tongue and rolls back into layers of gripping earth, spice, and quince. The nose is pure with hints of straw, white flower blossoms, and a wet stone pungency. Bekkakuhin is one of the few Sakes we have had that gives an impression of soil characteristics which is the only way to explain the incredible sense of minerality.
Much like how we like our wine, Ryusei uses wild yeasts from their rice fields for fermentation, adding to the complexity, overall depth, and earthiness. Compared to the YK35, which is like Musigny with its seamless finesse and grace, the Ryusei Bekkakuhin is more akin to a powerful, traditional Richebourg. What it misses in feminine charm is made up with kaleidoscope complexity, terrific length, and classic flavors that satisfy the Sake purist. The Bekkakuhin is more traditional, less linear, and delicate but more complex and rich. Ryusei Bekkaku is also an exclusive product and is limited to around 1,700 bottles a year for the whole world, and every bottle comes in a single wood box with a slip stating the number of the bottle. This Sake benefits from being a little warmer and will open up after the chill wears off. Ryusei Bekkaku is a rare and classic Sake sure to please the senses of anyone interested, no matter the level of experience.
