2013 Pehu-Simonet Extra Brut Blanc de Noirs Verzenay Les Crayeres Fins Lieux #2

$59.99
2013 Pehu-Simonet Extra Brut Blanc de Noirs Verzenay Les Crayeres Fins Lieux #2
An utterly brilliant performance by Pehu-Simonet, this is a stunning example for such a modest price, with many equally great bottles going for about double the money. The 2013 is exceptional and one of the best wines ever made by David Pehu, as Galloni notes in his review below. We have a great price on some of the only available bottles in the USA, and they are highly recommended.

A brilliant producer in the village of Verzenay in the Montagne de Reims, David Pehu is the 4th generation of his family to become a winemaker. Though we haven't offered these Champagnes before, they are incredible and highly detailed expressions of this terroir, with Pehu's signature being a more robust interpretation of the Montagne de Reims. David only bottles grand cru vineyards with a total of 6 hectares in a few revered sights, choosing to sell off his premier cru grapes. Pehu-Simonet's primary holdings are in the great village of Verzenay, where he has 3.5 hectares of vines which is the source of this exceptional Champagne.
David Pehu studied in Burgundy and the techniques he learned continue to influence the way he makes wines, mainly the use of barrels for fermentation, something that he has done since the late 80s. It is an integral part of his style, giving the champagnes more complexity and a generous feel. The Les Crayeres is considered one of the best vineyards in Verzenay and is an exceptional example of Pehu-Simonet standing up to other favorites from producers like Egly-Ouriet and Marguet. The Les Crayers is 100% Pinot Noir vinified in 60% Barrel and 40% tank and is truly an incredible display of this vineyard in 2013 with stunning expression, purity of gorgeous fruit, and exciting minerality.
Galloni calls the 2013 Les Crayeres here the best he has ever tasted from Pehu-Simonet, making this hard to find Champagne an incredible buy, especially at much lower pricing than its peers. We have some of the only bottles available right now at this friendly pricing, and we cannot recommend it enough to our Champagne-loving clients.

Antonio Galloni 95 pts! "The 2013 Extra Brut Blanc de Noirs Verzenay Les Crayeres Fins Lieux #2 is one of the best wines I have tasted from David Pehu. The combination of a cold, late-ripening harvest and Pinot Noir from one of the top sites in Verzenay results in a brisk, finely cut Champagne that delivers the goods. Minerally drenched savory notes cut through a core of Pinot fruit. The 2013 simply dazzles from start to finish. Dosage is 1.5 grams per liter. Disgorged: January, 2021."
