2016 Orlando Abrigo Barbaresco Rocche Meruzzano

$39.99
2016 Orlando Abrigo Barbaresco Rocche Meruzzano
Starting in 1988, Giovanni, who is married to Virna Borgogno, joined his father Orlando Abrigo to improve the quality of their wines. Together they purchased more hectares of land and expanded the winery to fit new technology and support a more significant, higher quality production. Meruzzano is the second-largest cru in Barbaresco, located in the village of Treiso, where elevations reach the highest in the area. The vines, which are, on average, 20 years old, with some reaching 40 years old, thrive on very steep hills with soil comprised of limestone and veins of clay. This is a very complex and age-worthy Barbaresco that will surprise even the pickiest of Italian wine lovers at this price. Meruzzano is to the core an overachieving, traditional Barbaresco that rarely makes it to the USA, so It is an honor to be one of the few that have access to this superbly crafted wine. A super vintage and hands down our top candidate for Barbaresco value.
Antonio Galloni 94 Points! "Abrigo's 2016 Barbaresco Meruzzano is a rich, heady wine. Smoke, tobacco, leather, licorice, dried herbs, menthol and melted road tar give the 2016 a distinctly brooding feel that also comes through in the wine's imposing tannins and inward feel. Readers should expect a potent, virile Barbaresco that needs time in bottle to shed some of its considerable tannin. There is a lot to look forward to in this stellar Barbaresco from Abrigo."
