2016 Arnaud Lambert Saumur Blanc Clos de la Rue

2016 Arnaud Lambert Saumur Blanc Clos de la Rue
What's most incredible about Arnaud Lambert is his ability to churn out such quality with nearly twenty different cuvées rendered from more than forty hectares of vineyards; although this is a lot, all of his wines seem like they've come from a Domaine with no more than five hectares. His wines are spectacularly etched jewels, short on pretension and confection and long on harmonious depth and purity. His 2016 Samur Blanc Clos de la Rue comes from vines adjacent to Clos Rougerd's parcel on the hill of Breze.

The vineyard consists of tuffeau limestone bedrock (calcium carbonate rock with a small proportion of sand) with a topsoil mix of tuffeau rock, clay, sand, and alluvial depositions. The topsoil is sandy limestone on top for around 25 centimeters, then clay for another 10 centimeters, and finally the tuffeau limestone bedrock. The clay and warmth of the vineyard (within the context of this very cold commune) make this wine’s dimensions more pronounced than many other whites grown from this hill. Arnaud considers to this be his best parcel, and the vines are certified organic. His wine-making process is simply to let the wine make the wine intervening as little as possible during this process. The wine spends about 24 months in French oak mostly used is then racked and settled for six months in tank before bottling.
This 100% Chenin Blanc has aromas of apple blossoms, quince, citrus skin, minerality, honeysuckle, saline, and dried flowers. The palate has excellent energy with incredible depth laser beam-like precision with tons of dry extract on the palate-staining finish. All we could say after tasting it was wow! A must-buy for the European white wine l
