Clos des Chenes is one of the top premier cru vineyards in Volnay, nestled at the top of the appellation on the border with Monthelie. It's a rather large vineyard compared to some of the other crus of Volnay, making vine location critical to quality, and Chateau Meursault's portion is located in a great spot at the centralized top section of the vineyard with a total of 2.63 hectares.
Winemaking here is reasonably straightforward, with rigorous sorting before temperature-controlled fermentation and aging for 18 months in 40% new oak and 60% 1 to 2-year-old oak.
2019 is an imposing effort for the Clos des Chenes here and is one of the best examples of this wine from the Domaine. A classic Volnay with its telltale elegance, high acidity, and beautiful purity of fruit and terroir, this is a complex example with slightly more richness and power thanks to the excellent 2019 vintage. Easily the best buys for 2019 Clos des Chenes, this is an outstanding buy for premier cru Burgundy with most examples over $100. A very rare wine, and at the moment, we have some of the only bottles available in the world. Burghound 92-94 points! "This possess one of the most complex noses in the range with its beautiful aromas of violet, earth, plum, dark cherry and exotic tea wisps. The is both excellent verve and richness to the bigger-bodied and more mineral-driven flavors that culminate in an austere, serious and strikingly persistent finish. This is also very clearly built-to-age and a wine that I would advise leaving for at least a decade. With that said, this is really quite impressive."
