2020 Bernard Levet Côte-Rôtie Améthyste

$49.99
2020 Bernard Levet Côte-Rôtie Améthyste
Our last call for the Amethyste from Bernard Levet; this is one of the most consistent best buys for Cote Rotie and has some nice press. We still have low pricing here, and this has gotten quite rare, and right now, these are some of the only bottles available in the USA. A great buy for Cote-Rotie; don't miss these last bottles!

The 2020 Amethyste from Levet is exceptional, and we have a few more cases available after our offer a while back. Levet only has about 3.5 hectares of vines, which is extremely small but with holdings in some revered vineyards throughout Cote-Rotie. Levet's holdings were passed down through the generations and are made up of three different sites. Currently, the estate is in the hands of Bernard's daughter Agnes as she continues the legacy of this tiny Domaine.
Amethyste is one of Levet's gems, sourcing from some magnificent areas, including Cote Blonde, Cote Brune, Mollard, Baleyat, and Chavaroche. It is made very traditionally with whole clusters and old wood and has long been the favorite from Levet and is consistently one of the best buys for Cote-Rotie, with 2020 having the potential to be one of the best of all time.
We have the only bottles of 2020 available in the USA with no price increase over the previous vintage, and it is one of the best buys for Cote-Rotie in any given vintage. Levet is one of the few producers in the Region still offering incredibly made wines at reasonable pricing, and the Amethyste is not one to miss.

Vinous (Josh Raynolds) 94 points! "Glass-staining ruby. Pungent aromas of ripe black and blue fruits, licorice, smoked meat, potpourri and black pepper. Offers densely packed cassis, bitter cherry and candied violet flavors that show fine definition and are braced by an undercurrent of juicy acidity. The licorice, cassis and floral notes repeat on a long, spice- and mineral-accented finish that features youthfully chewy tannins and a hint of bitter chocolate."

Jeb Dunnuck 92-94 points! "Leading off the 2020 barrel samples, the 2020 Côte Rôtie Amethyste is a beautiful wine revealing medium to full-bodied richness, a round, layered texture, ripe tannins, and some classic Levet character in its ripe red and blue fruits, violets, pepper, and gunpowder-like aromas and flavors. The base cuvée from the estate and a blend of the Chavaroche and Les Journaries, it will be more approachable but still evolve for 15 years if stored properly."
