2019 Famille Perrin / Perrin & Fils Gigondas Domaine du Clos des Tourelles

$49.99
2019 Famille Perrin / Perrin & Fils Gigondas Domaine du Clos des Tourelles
We have a few cases of this outstanding Gigondas that have just arrived. A fantastic expression of the Grenache grape from this slightly cooler site, this gives many much more expensive Southern Rhone wines a run for their money and is one of the best buys of the vintage, especially for those that love Grenache.

The Domaine des Tourelles vineyard is located at the foot of the village of Gigondas with a northwest orientation, enjoying a cool microclimate that allows late harvests and incredible physiological maturity of the grapes. The vineyard's soils are calcareous, with a specific sandy matrix, which is more apparent in the "clos" section of the vineyard.
The harvest date is defined by regular checks on the ripeness and berry tastings. When ready, the fruit is manually picked, and great care is taken with the bunches as they are transferred partially destemmed into vats. After a few days of maceration, the fermentation starts spontaneously with the indigenous yeasts. Light punch-downs mainly do the extraction, and after pressing in a vertical press, the wines are aged in oak foudres for a year and a half.
The 2019 vintage turned out to be an incredible vintage for this wine, and for this bottling, the fruit is sourced from the sweet spot of the Clos, imbuing the wine with elegance and a unique aromatic finesse. This wine is the pinnacle of Gigondas, with its incredible depth, complexity, and length outshining many of the Chateauneuf du Papes on the market today. This is a very rare wine and a must-buy if you love the wines from the Southern Rhone valley and the Grenache grape.

Jeb Dunnuck 97 points! All Grenache that was vinified in tank and brought up in tronconique wooded tank, the 2019 Gigondas Clos Des Tourelles is up there with the top vintages of this cuvée and is well worth seeking out. Roughly 60% destemmed, it has a core of black raspberry fruit as well as lots of ground pepper, spice, violets, and floral notes in its full-bodied, ultra-fine, pure, seamless style. It’s a heavenly Gigondas that will evolve for 15-20 years if stored correctly. (Drink between 2021 - 2041)

James Suckling 96 points! "Striking nose of very small red and black berries, together with powdered spice. Rich and sophisticated with a very silky and sensual texture on the palate, in spite of the dense core of fine tannins. Very long and refined finish that doesn’t want to stop."
