Home to exceptional vineyards since the 17th century, Tokara Wine Estate sits on the southern slopes, with unrivaled views over False Bay to Table Mountain. Using only the highest quality fruit sourced from the best performing blocks, grapes are hand-picked and processed. Stainless steel fermentation is used for most of the production, with 13% of the juice fermented in neutral oak barrels. About 3500 cases were produced in 2018.
Yellow-green in color and still extremely bright and fresh, the tropical fruit nose of gooseberry and passionfruit makes for a beautifully fragrant wine. Juicy lemon, fresh green citrus, and creamy but crisp lingering finish on the palate.
Extreme value and great to drink now or over the next few years, the wine is wonderfully crafted and punches way above its class, rivaling some of the top white Bordeauxs and Sancerres we have recently tasted at a fraction of their prices. A big note from South African expert John Platter below, this is a wow wine for the money!
John Platter 95 Points! "Tightly focused, vibrates with nervous tension: nettles & lime, green papaya, the palate dry, with mouthwatering tangy acidity. 2018 is already drinking well, but a long life ahead as it unfolds over time. Cool-climate style from Elgin."
