2016 Stephane Ogier Syrah La Rosine

$29.99
2016 Stephane Ogier Syrah La Rosine
A few more cases of this fantastic Northern Rhone value have just arrived, and it's a magnificent bottle from Ogier at this low pricing. We opened a bottle recently and are happy to report that this is a stunning and polished Syrah that reminds us of a mini Cote Rotie. Since Stephane Ogier moved to his new wine-making facility, his wines have become even better and incredibly elegant and refined. The 2016 La Rosine is a spectacular bottle for the money that will continue to drink well over the next three to five years. We have US low pricing on this serious cellar saver for the experienced or new Northern Rhone drinker, and it comes highly recommended.

Another exquisite wine from Ogier, we tasted a few back vintages of Ogier around the Cote du Rhone level, and this was a stunner. Stephane Ogier is one of the producers that shows the progression of the Northern Rhone. His wines are detailed, precise, and refined yet have a definite sense of place. The dance between the fresh, juicy, and pure fruit and the savory, minerality, and structure is what makes these wines sing. La Rosine does this flawlessly for a wine at this level and while not as serious as the crus, this is a gorgeous bottle that shows Stephane Ogier's skill. This cuvee comes from the Collines Rhodaniennes IGP, but its specific location is in Tupin-Semons, which lies between Ampuis and Condrieu. The vines here are between 20-30 years old and planted on granite soils. The Grapes are harvested by hand, sorted twice, and are about 80% destemmed. Fermentation is completed with natural yeasts in stainless steel tanks before aging in used French oak barrels for 12 months. 2016 was an incredible vintage for the Northern Rhone, and this picks up on that beauty with its expressive nose of beautiful red and black fruits, underbrush, and minerality. The palate is incredibly refined, showing an elegant density, with super delicious and pure fruit, finishing silky and long. The 2016 Rosine is in the prime place for drinking right now and is the best wine we have tasted of its kind in over a year. We cannot recommend this enough for Rhone drinkers, Syrah fans, or even those who are just looking for an excellent, ready-to-drink red wine value.

Vinous (Josh Raynolds) 91 points! "Brilliant violet. Cherry liqueur, black currant, olive and a smoky mineral overtone on the highly fragrant nose. Seamless and pliant on the palate, offering concentrated dark berry, floral pastille and cracked pepper flavors that turn livelier with air. Finishes with building florality and fine-grained tannins that lend gentle grip to the clinging finish."
