An incredible example of mature northern Rhone Syrah, we have a few more cases available of this back vintage beauty. For the money, you won't find a better example of the grape anywhere with the Domaine de Thalabert being consistently one of the best buys in the Northern Rhone. This is the last chance to grab a bottle so don't miss out!
We found some back-vintage bottles from one of the most recognized names in the Northern Rhone. Always the best buy for the Domaine, the Thalabert is more of a signature than an entry-level wine for Jaboulet. Sourcing from 50-70+-year-old vines, there is nothing entry about this. This is the Domaine's inaugural vineyard purchase and holds a special place in their hearts, which is why they put so much effort into it each year. This vineyard is in a vital location that many of the top producers of Crozes-Hermitage desire. The Domaines purchase by the Frey family in 2007 has resulted in a significant quality increase in implementing lower yields and biodynamics into the mix. One of the best Crozes-Hermitage and a favorite of ours next to Alain Graillot, Jacques Desvernois, would have made this before moving to Guigal. This is in an excellent stage for drinking, and all the bottles came directly from the Domaine. A Perfectly aged bottle with of Crozes-Hermitage and at the same price as its initial release years ago.
Vinous (Josh Raynolds) 92 points! "Inky ruby. Displays lively, spice-tinged black raspberry and cherry aromas, with notes of fresh flowers and minerals adding lift. Seamless and precise on the palate, offering nervy red and dark berry flavors plus hints of licorice and cola. In a lively, elegant style, finishing with strong cut, supple tannins and a lingering note of candied flowers."
Decanter 91 points! "The Jaboulets need little introduction, being as they are one of the leading winemaking families in this small part of the world. This Crozes-Hermitage has structure and breadth thanks to 12 months spent in new French oak. The palate features dense, juicy black fruit and cassis with spices on the finish. The acidity is well balanced, making this surprisingly easy to drink on its own, but it's better with a stew or grilled red meats."
Wine Advocate (Jeb Dunnuck) 91 points! "A rich, structured Crozes Hermitage, Jaboulet’s 2012 Domaine de Thalabert offers first-rate notes of blackcurrants, peppery herbs, leather, black olive and scorched earth. Aged 12 months in 20% new French oak, it’s medium-bodied, juicy and balanced, with enough underlying depth and structure to keep it evolving nicely through 2023."
