A knockout bottle of what Rose of Pinot Noir can be, this is very impressive and on par or better than some of Burgundy's leading examples, showing the utter mastery that Francois Crochet has over this vineyard in Sancerre—highly recommended; this one Rose truly worth trying this vintage.
This is a gorgeous rose of Pinot Noir and one of the best recently tasted. This Rose is an early picking of Francois Crochet's Pinot Noir vineyard, which is also used for other cuvees. The vines are all about 20 years old and biodynamically farmed, with fruit harvested by hand and pressed whole cluster before a short maceration and aging in a tank for six months.
This earlier picked fruit marries so much better than fully ripe fruit for Rose, complimenting its more delicate profile and short maceration period where it gains a radiant pink hue. This earlier picked fruit also improves the quality of the final crop they use for their Sancerre Rouge (Pinot Noir) and is a process similar to green harvesting. This wine is so delicate and pure with lovely red flowers, currant, red cherry pit, orange zest, and some lovely liquid minerals. The palate is elegant and pure, with the red fruit flavors dominating before turning to a lovely mineral and saline finish. While many places offer an overwhelming amount of Rose this time of year, we are very selective and only offer what we deem to be the best. The 2022 Rose from Francois Crochet is one of the greatest we have tried, and it gets a big recommendation from us.
