Bailly-Lapierre Crémant de Bourgogne Réserve Brut

$14.99
Bailly-Lapierre Crémant de Bourgogne Réserve Brut
One of the ultimate sparkling cellar savers, this Cremant from Bailly-Lapierre is excellent and drinks way above its price point. It is an incredible value that outdoes some grower Champagnes and a joy to drink at this low pricing. We have a few cases still available, and it's a value bottle of Sparkling worth checking out.

The largest and one of the only addresses in Burgundy purely dedicated to Cremant de Bourgogne, Bailly-Lapierre has been making sparkling wines using the traditional method adopted from Champagne since 1972. Located in Saint-Bris-le-Vineux just south of the fourth largest city in Burgundy, Auxerre, which is about 30 minutes west of Chablis, this area was recognized as the first AOC for Cremant de Bourgogne, a status awarded in 1975. Realizing that this more northern fruit would be fit for making sparkling wine and was akin to Champagne with its slightly cooler temperatures, Bailly-Lapierre began working with many growers. Today they source fruit from villages like Irancy, Chitry Le Fort, Coulanges-la-Vineuse, Saint-Bris-le-Vineux, all about a 15-minute drive to the south of Auxerre. Fruit is acquired through 430 grower relationships, giving farmers from these lesser-known villages a chance to sell their grapes and make money. In return, Bailly-Lapierre gets access to fruit that is perfect for Cremant de Bourgogne. Bailly-Lapierre is based some 50 meters below ground in underground quarries that stretch for 10 acres and is an absolutely massive subterranean property that holds millions of bottles of Cremant de Bourgogne, naturally cool, humid, and dark, perfect for the storing and aging of wine.
Bailly-Lapierre makes quite a few sparkling wines made with four different Burgundian varietals, and the Brut Reserve is their mainstay made with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Gamay, and Aligote. Crisp and clean with good richness and a surprising amount of depth at this level, this is an easy-drinking sparkling value that isn't far off from a grower Champagne. Seeing the same process that Sparkling wines from Champagne would with secondary fermentation happening in bottles and aging on the lees for 12 months. A fantastic cellar saver and an excellent choice for a house pour while staying price-conscious, this is a unique look at these favorite Burgundian varietals in a style that reaches Champagne quality.

Decanter 92 points! "Inviting, white floral and softly fruited nose. Delicate but well defined, with green apple, elderflower and peach touches on the palate. Light and elegant style perfect as an aperitif, to catch the nuance and delicacy of flavour – a thirst-quenching, delicious summer fizz. The easiest-drinking in the producer's large and successful range of 12 crémants."
