2005 Domaine Georges Mugneret Gibourg Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Chaignots Eta 1-week

2005 Domaine Georges Mugneret Gibourg Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Chaignots Eta 1-week
John Gilman 93 pts!  The 2005 Chaignots was racked in July, and consequently was in beautiful form in November. In contrast to the always structured Vignes Rondes, the Mugneret’s example of Chaignots is always one of the most elegant and Vosne-like examples of Nuits St. Georges. I have seen the character of this wine really blossom in the last several vintages, and have been adding it in depth to my cellar ever since I got my act together with the 2001 vintage. The nose on the 2005 is simply beautiful, as it offers up scents of cherries, berries, plums, dark chocolate, violets, lovely minerality and a deft base of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep and very impressively polished for a young Nuits, with beautiful focus, fine-grained tannins, bright acids, and excellent grip on the long and elegant finish. A stellar bottle of Nuits St. Georges that will be approachable from age seven or eight, but will be better from a decade out. (Drink between 2012 - 2040)
