2002 Paul Anheuser Niederhäuser Riesling

$19.99
2002 Paul Anheuser Niederhäuser Riesling

After selling out our first lot in hours, we bought the remaining bottles available from our supplier. As customary, we took a bottle from the shipment to try, and it blew us away. It was even better than the first bottle we tried, still very fresh but with mature nuances that light up the palate in a dynamic display that makes Riesling so great. One of the best older bottles of Riesling we have come across, especially at this price point.

See our original offer below.

Anheuser is one of the old families in the Nahe whose history dates back to 1627 during the Thirty Years War. One of the most prominent early family members, Eberhard Anheuser, came to the USA in 1842 and helped found the famous Anheuser-Busch brewery in St. Louis, Missouri. His nephew Rudolf Anheuser became one of the pioneers of the Nahe, planting Riesling in the area and building a winery. He was one of the first to start bottling Riesling young and fresh so that they could age longer, developing a style while doing so. Paul Anheuser soon took over, refining and expanding the selection of dry wines until his son Rudolf P. Anheuser gained control in 1969, where he lead the estate until 2005. Today the winery ran by 14th generation owners, aptly named Rudolph and Paul. Respecting tradition, the two uphold the classic levels of quality to maintain the highest standard possible. As mentioned, the style of the Domaine since long ago was wines that were made to be aged for an extended time. This is exactly that and is a late release directly from the Anheuser Cellars that just arrived to the USA. These are in a perfect spot for drinking and good on Anheuser for holding a bottle back that they could have sold long ago, and at no upcharge. Gorgeous orchard fruits, citrus, white flowers, complex minerals, and an incredible acidity balances out the sweetness very well. A rockstar bottle, this is an excellent value, with some recent reviews on CellatTracker for a score of 91.6. This is a deal not to pass up, still has plenty of life ahead, and will make for some very fun and creative pairings. These are the only bottles available in the world right now, so don't miss them!
