2007 August Kesseler Rüdesheimer Berg Roseneck Riesling Auslese GK 375ml$29.99
The more we taste the wines of August Kesseler, the more we realize he is an under-appreciated producer. This wine was shipped to us by my mistake, but we are happy to say it’s a stunning bottle of Riesling. The 375ml is the perfect size for sticky, and this wine possesses incredible energy and vibrance, so it is more versatile than typical dessert wines. Our pricing on it is excellent, and the review from David Schildknecht is right on for its descriptors.
Wine Advocate (David Schildknecht) 92 pts! Kesseler’s 2007 Rudesheimer Berg Roseneck Riesling Auslese Gold Capsule is immediately striking for its sense of levity and delicacy allied to concentrated expressions of peach preserves; over-ripe pear and honeydew melon; marzipan; and gardenia. Like chiffon that has been beaten into a fine froth, this descends on the palate as a cloud, then lingers long with hints of creaminess, as well as floral and fruit essences. It would be difficult to offer more of a contrast than between this memorable wine and its counterpart from the Lorcher Schlossberg. I expect that here, too, we have a wine with quarter-century potential.
