2007 R. López de Heredia Rioja Reserva Viña Bosconia

$39.99
2007 R. López de Heredia Rioja Reserva Viña Bosconia
The Tondonia usually steals the show but the Bosconia is still an impressive wine and while it may need a little more time to come around it is a serious bottle of rioja. Here’s the new vintage for one of our top sweet spots in classic Rioja. The Bosconia vineyard from Lopez de Heredia continues to be one of our favorites, the site that they consider the most Burgundian and in century’s past was planted with a percentage of Pinot Noir. While today it’s all typical Rioja varietals, they’ve kept the Burgundian shaped bottle as reference for the site’s terroir and the wine’s history. One of the most elegant wines coming out of Rioja and this vintage clocking in at 12.5% alcohol, a cool, balanced, wonderfully nuanced effort in this great vintage. The most iconic classicist in Rioja, the new release at our typical very low number.
Wine Advocate (Luis Gutierrez) 93 points! "2006 was a hard year to follow, even if 2007 was a great year in Rioja and exceptional for López de Heredia. The 2007 Viña Bosconia Reserva shows a little tannic, fulfilling the reputation for being a more rustic wine than Viña Tondonia. There are notes of chocolate-covered cherries and hints of forest floor. Maybe with a little more time in bottle? 70,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2014."
