We were able to procure a few more cases from the offiical importer last week, we decided to taste this Champagne again since we have not had it in a while, and we are happy to report its awesome! The best young example we have ever tasted of Charles Heidsieck's brut millesime. This Champagne possesses the whole package, stunning aromatics, incredible depth, tons of dry extract, and a whiplash of a finish. Starting to drink great now it should evolve effortlessly for a decade or more!
This is the most significant release from Charles Heidsieck since the 1995 Blanc des Millénaires. The 2008s from some of the bigger domaies have slowly started to roll out, and while this was released late last year, the extra time is only to the consumer's benefit. Early reports on cellar tracker are promising with an average of 93. Still relatively young, with age, this will be one of the best Champagnes that Charles Heidsieck has ever made thanks to the magic of the 2008 vintage. We have tons of experience and have always enjoyed this producer tasting vintages back to the 70s. Charles Heidsieck can be sneaky good and not a house that gets as much attention, and in the big millesimes, the wines are heroic.
Wine Advocate (William Kelley) 95 points! Disgorged in February 2019 with eight grams per liter dosage, the 2008 Brut Millésimé unfurls in the glass with beautiful aromas of citrus oil, crisp green apple, linden, fresh walnuts and warm bread. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, taut and incisive, with a deep and layered core that integrates its racy spine of acidity, excellent concentration and a long, delicately nutty finish. Impeccably balanced, this is Heidsieck's finest vintage bottling since the 1980s.
