Lucie \u0026amp; Auguste Lignier made this wine (the ex-wife of Hubert Lignier, who ended up with some of his vineyards in the divorce), then Charles Noëllat purchased it and bottled it under the Noëllat label. This corresponds to Lignier’s Cuvée Romain Lignier from the same vintage and was assembled from three excellent Morey-Saint-Denis Premier Cru sites: Les Faconnières, Les Chenevery and La Riotte, with Faconnières sitting directly below Clos de la Roche and the blend combining structure, depth and freshness from some very serious terroir. The 2008 vintage was a cool, classic year in Burgundy, producing wines built more on acidity, perfume, and transparency than sheer concentration, and the best examples have developed beautifully with time; these bottles are in perfect condition, just released from Noellat. Now approaching two decades from vintage, it shows the mature complexity that makes aged Burgundy so compelling, with red and black cherry giving way to dried flowers, sous-bois, forest floor, savory spice, and earthy mineral notes, all carried by the vintage's freshness and fine structure.
