I have now tasted all the 2008 Roses from Roederer Cristal, Krug, and Deutz (Amour de Deutz), and I have to say the Deutz hangs right in there with these others. The Amour de Deutz label was inspired by the graceful cherub from whom its name derives. The Amour de Deutz Rose is the rarest of all the Deutz Champagnes produced, and is a blend of 36% Chardonnay with 64% Pinot Noir including 9% of red wine. This lot was disgorged in 2018 thus spending 10 years on the lees. Pale Salmon in color with aromas of fresh strawberries, blood orange, currant, apricot, brioche, saline, and wet slate. The palate focuses on the red fruits, with a touch of orange zest, wet stones, saline, and tons on dry extract on the long lingering finish. This is a wow Champagne from one of the most under rated big houses, don’t miss it!
Vinous (Antonio Galloni) 94 points! Interestingly, the 2008 Brut Rosé Millésimé Amour de Deutz is quite a bit more crystalline and tightly wound than the Blanc, which is just fine, as the nervy style here is more in keeping with the personality of the vintage. Cranberry, crushed rocks, mint and white pepper all add lift and vibrancy to this exceptionally pure, crystalline Champagne from Deutz. (Drink between 2020-2030)
