The premier cru Champonnets is even a touch deeper and purer on the nose than the excellent Evocelles, as it offers up a fine mélange of red and black cherries, cocoa, a bit of gamebird, coffee and a great base of minerality. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very suave on the attack, with a fine core of fruit, ripe tannins and excellent length and grip on the nicely reserved finish.
