2008 Gosset Champagne Celebris

$179.99
2008 Gosset Champagne Celebris
The Gosset Celebris has been a favorite among serious Champagne fans for many years and is a bottle that never ceases to impress in any vintage. 2008 has incredible potential and was an exceptional year for Champagne, but many of the top examples were released years ago and are now hard to find at reasonable pricing. Gosset kept this one aging in their cellars until it was ready, allowing us to experience this Champagne at peak performance, which they continue to do for this Cuvee with great success. 2008 is one of the history books here, and we are down to our last bottles, which are currently the only ones available in the USA and at lower pricing than the current going rates for previous vintages.

The Celebris is the best of the best from Gosset, the oldest house in Champagne, and is one of the Champagnes's top Tete de Cuvees. 2008 was a vintage that took years before it was ready for release, and while the Rose took 13 years, it took chef de cave Odilon de Varine even longer to give the regular bottle his seal of approval, spending 14 years in the cellars at Gosset. Celebris is a rare Cuvee, and Gosset seeks perfection every time a Celebris is released, striving for a mythic level of quality. The Celebris is also a very exclusive Champagne with minimal amounts made and only created in vintages deemed worthy and is the ultimate expression of the house.
The 2008 Celebris is being released right now and is poised to be one of the most significant examples of the Celebris ever. While the blend hasn't fully been disclosed yet, it should follow the path of previous iterations like 2007. Seeing around 60% Chardonnay from prestigious villages like Vertus, Avize, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Verzy, Trépail and 40% Pinot Noir Cumières, Avenay, Aÿ, Bouzy, Ambonnay. Celebris is usually finished with a low dosage of around 3 grams per liter, capitalizing on the purity of fruit and minerality. It is a Champagne that is incredibly structured and complex thanks to the extended aging on the lees. Even after years in the cellar, the Celebris still has a youthful side to it on release, which is part of the timeless magic of this Champagne. This is one of the last new 2008 releases in today's market, and we have a very early offering here with no other bottles currently available in the USA. Some nice scores are sure to come soon, and for dedicated Champagne lovers, this is a bottle worth checking out.
