2008 Henri Goutorbe Champagne Grand Cru Brut Special Club

$69.99
2008 Henri Goutorbe Champagne Grand Cru Brut Special Club

Today we have another great bottle at the top of the list, taking a slight lead over the lineup in 2008. Henri Goutorbe is an excellent producer from the village of Ay in the Marne Valley that got their start running a vine nursery long ago. Goutorbe makes fabulous Champagnes featuring fantastic Pinot Noir from Ay, and many of our clients have experienced the excellent quality of their lineup. The Special Club is a marvelous Champagne here and the best bottle that Goutorbe produced in the 2008 vintage. A blend of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay from the Grand Cru village of Ay vinified in stainless steel, showing intensity and mineral tension met with a profound richness and energy, its textbook Goutorbe and a beautiful example of the house style. It is not uncommon for the Special Club to spend ten or more years on the lees, especially in an outstanding vintage like 2008, helping the Champagne build layers of complexity over time. While this Champagne hasn't been scored yet like the regular 2008 Millesime, the Special Club is a better bottle and should warrant an even higher rating. We have great pricing on here on this top Special Club contender for 2008, and it's a bottle worth checking out for those that love the best that Grower Champagne can offer.
