Created to honor Sir Winston Churchill, the style of this Champagne was the English Prime Ministers Favorite. Pol Rogers's top Champagne and the exact blend is a closely guarded secret, but it is predominantly Pinot Noir, followed by Chardonnay. The Pinot Noir lends structure and power, while the Chardonnay gives elegance and precision. The grapes are only sourced from grand cru villages and only made in the best vintages. This is one of Champagne aficionado Richard Juhlin's favorite producers and is a very valiant effort in 2009. One of our favorite Cuvee's of all time, having had vintages back 30 years in many different sizes. 2009 is often overlooked but an excellent champagne vintage, and while they are generous wines, Sir Winston, like many of the Tete de Cuvee, shows impressive restraint and balance. We have a few late-release cases of this great bottle, but the quantity is limited, so don't miss out!
Wine Advocate (Dr. William Kelley) 95+ points! "Pol Roger's 2009 Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill has turned out very well, offering up a demonstrative bouquet of golden apples, clear honey, hazelnuts and fresh pastry that's still quite primary. Full-bodied, fleshy and textural, it's deep and concentrated, with an ample core of fruit, ripe but racy acids, a pinpoint mousse and a long, penetrating finish. This is an expressive, deceptively immediate rendition of this bottling, yet despite its charm out of the gates, readers willing to wait at least five years will be rewarded with significant additional complexity."
