Our last bottles on Pre-Arrival, Lopez Heredia is one of our client's favorite addresses in Rioja. 2009 is another feather in the historic cap of this address whose unwavering commitment to the traditional side of Rioja is always respected and welcomed. It is a tremendous value for a new release with this much age and a wine that delivers an exquisite sense of place, creating an intersection of age, classicism, and pricing.

Lopez de Heredia is one of Spain's constants, virtually unchanged for 140 years, promoting the ultra-classic style of Rioja. These, for many years, have been one of the top buys for Old World Red Wine, achieving a level of quality that stuns at this price point. Lopez de Heredia continues to impress, and this new release, 2009, looks to be another sensational effort from this favorite Spanish address. The Tondonia is always a bar-setting bottle. It capitalizes on the rustic style that becomes a masterpiece after aging in the cellar, typically showing more finesse than the Bosconia. Very few producers have a new release with this much age right out of the gate. A blend of 70% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacho and 5% each Mazuelo and Graciano. 2009 is a bit of an opposite vintage compared to 2008, showing immense power, structure, concentration, and ripeness, which coincides with much of Europe that year. Showing very well right off the release, this is another selection from Lopez de Heredia not to miss continuing their legacy for sensational old-world values. At the moment, we have low pricing on a few of the only bottles available in the USA.
James Suckling 97 points! "Sweet berries, cherries, cedar and dried flowers on the nose. Some lemon and lime zest, too! Medium-to full-bodied with tight, integrated tannins that show wonderful length and reserve. So fresh and vivid. Lots of energy. A wonderful, classic wine. Drink or hold."
