EFW - We don't see a lot of the Gratien Champagnes come through the states, especially the more prestigious cuvees which is why we are honored to be able to offer the 2012 Blanc de Blancs. Alfred Gratien was founded in 1864 outside of Epernay and since its conception has followed many of the same principles of the early days of the House. The Champagne is vinified 100% in 228-liter oak barrels, with no malolactic fermentation. This use of oak is the key to the Gratien style; round edges yet energetic with a very precise acidity and age worthiness. The Chardonnay is sourced from the Houses own vineyards and carefully selected purchased fruit in Avize and Cramant. Elusive at first before opening up to a myriad of white flowers, citrus, clarified butter, and minerality. A dense core shows itself on the palate balanced by a laser focused acidity and silky texture. Currently the only offer in the USA as of 6/11/2019. This is hard to find, complex, and elegant 2012 that is worth checking out especially at this price!
