We were able to source a bit more of this at its original release price as we continue to be impressed by this Champagne years later. A great bottle of Blanc de Blancs that is on a different level compared to some of its peers and is an excellent bottle for celebrating. We have never tired of drinking the 2012 Delamotte and are always impressed after opening one. The 2012 has been out for a few years now but is only getting better as time goes on. A fan favorite and truly one of the best buys for Champagne at this pricing, but we have a limited amount available today, but they will only last for a while!
The sister label to Salon, Delamotte, has been producing Champagne in Mesnil-sur-Oger for 250 years. The 2012 Millesime is the current release from this House, and a stunning one at that. We have tasted the 2012 countless times out of Magnum and 750ml, and it is an incredible bottle. It is one of our go-to Blanc de Blancs still after all this time, and it's the best vintage they have ever made. Powerful yet very refined with effortless depth, Delamotte is a different style than Salon, a little richer but made with the same integrity one would expect from one of Champagne's top houses. This Champagne has it all with focused acidity, beautiful fruit, and excellent minerality. It's an incredibly impressive vintage for this Champagne, and after trying countless bottles in 750ml and Magnum, it is defiantly a Champagne that lies high on our list, especially at this sharp pricing.
Antonio Galloni 94 points! "Delamotte’s 2012 Brut Vintage is rich, creamy and super-expressive. This is only the second vintage (the first was 2008) in which fruit from Oiry rounds out the classic core of Le Mesnil, Oger and Cramant that forms the backbone of the Vintage. Dried pear, white flowers, chamomile and mint are some of the notes that grace this exquisite understated Blanc de Blancs. The 2012 offers terrific depth and textural resonance in a creamy, expressive style that captures the radiant personality of the year and the understated, quiet voice that is such a Delamotte signature."
Wine Advocate (William Kelley) 94+ points! "A worthy successor to the super 2008, Delamotte's 2012 Blanc de Blancs is performing very well—despite the fact that it was disgorged as recently as June 2019. Opening in the glass with aromas of citrus oil, dried white flowers, smoke and wheat toast, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with a bright girdle of acidity, well-integrated dosage and a fine mousse, the muscularity of the vintage rendered with uncommon finesse. While this is quite expressive for such a recently disgorged vintage Delamotte, the rewards of even only a few years' patience will be considerable."
Decanter 94 points! "5g/L dosage. Disgorged October 2019. The first vintage release since 2008, this blend of six Chardonnay grands crus has spent almost seven years on lees in the cellar. This will age gracefully for at least 10 years, but is delicious and surprisingly accessible now, creamy, rich and concentrated with an almost exotic white flower character, and a hint of ginger spice. Would be a heavenly match for Asian seared salmon, or chicken with morels or truffles."
