2012 Diebolt-Vallois Champagne Grand Cru Fleur de Passion Brut

$179.99
2012 Diebolt-Vallois Champagne Grand Cru Fleur de Passion Brut
An exceptional Tete de Cuvee, Fleur de Passion is one of those Champagnes that fly under the radar but competes with some of the biggest names in Champagne. A rare find and favorite among our clients, the 2012 is the best since 2008 with the potential to overtake, and right now, we have the only bottles in the USA. A top buy for Tete de Cuvee Grand Cru Champagne, don't miss these last bottles.

The Champagnes from Diebolt Vallois are extraordinary and one of our favorite producers of all time for Grower Champagne. Now and again, we pop a bottle of Fleur de Passion to see how it is coming in along, and after tasting many of the top vintages multiple times, we have a good grasp on how they are doing. The 2012 Fleur de Passion is the newest release of this legendary Champagne and is poised to be one of the best of all time. The Chardonnay for this blend is sourced from 7 or 8 old vine hillside plots (around 60 years old) in the excellent village of Cramant. Vines grow on a thin layer of earth over an almost pure chalk base with an East-South-East exposure. Fermentation occurs in previously used Burgundy barrels with Malolactic fermentation, filtering, and fining avoided. It is finished with a low dosage, never over 5 grams per liter. Fleur de Passion is a traditional, timeless style that competes with some of Champagne's best Tete de Cuvees.
The Fleur de Passion is a gorgeous bottle with brilliant purity, elegance, unending complexity, and length. It is a subtle Champagne that slowly builds in intensity, becoming more expressive as it opens up, which is a glimpse into how well these Champagnes age. When we visited Jacques Diebolt in Champagne halfway into the tasting, he pointed out how his "Fleur de Passion" was on par with Krug Clos des Mesnil in the eyes of some important wine critics in France. We have also heard the same thing from some of our clients who have conducted blind tastings and have preferred the Fleur de Passion over the Krug Clos de Mesnil. 2012 is one of the most significant vintages for the Fleur de Passion ever and is a bottle worth seeking out for fans of higher-end Grower Champagne. With a nice CellarTracker Community score of 93.4, we have a limited amount of the Fleur de Passion in stock right now, which are the only bottles available in the USA.
