2012 Larmandier-Bernier Champagne Grand Cru Vieille Vigne du Levant Extra Brut 1.5L

$269.99
2012 Larmandier-Bernier Champagne Grand Cru Vieille Vigne du Levant Extra Brut 1.5L
Our last bottles of one of the top Champagnes of the vintage, we have a limited amount of the 2012 Levant available in Magnum from Larmandier-Bernier. An extraordinary example of Blanc de Blancs from this vintage. This is downright impressive and proves that it wasn't only Pinot Noir vintage. Complex and deep with outstanding richness and energy, showing an elegant streak to its power. It's a spectacular Champagne, and we have some of the only magnums available.

One of the finest estates in the Cote de Blancs, Larmandier Bernier, based in Vertus, creates some of Champagne's most intriguing wines that play to the more intense, powerful, complex, and vinous side of the spectrum. Long time proprietors of organics, the beauty here starts in the vineyards, many of which hold very old vines and, the vines for the Levant parcel reach up top 80 years old with roots that burrow down right into the bedrock. 100% Chardonnay, this is technically a Blanc de Blancs but isn't labeled as such. The vineyard is based on the East side of Cramant and is one of the first vineyards to feel the sun's rays and is entirely different from wines from the west side, showing more power and richness, which is the basis for the magic of this Cuvee. Fermentation is completed in wood with indigenous yeasts, aging on the lees with no filtering for about a year before triage, and aging for about another seven years before a low dosage of 2 g/l. The 2012 was disgorged this past June and displays Larmandier's beguiling complexity, intensity, and concentration. One of our favorite addresses, the Levant, is a Champagne our clients look for each year for its consistency and is a beautiful display of the vintage through Larmandioer's eyes. 2012 clocks in as one of the most extraordinary bottles of Levant ever produced here and is not a wine to miss, especially at this low pricing for a new release 2012.

Antonio Galloni 96 points! "The 2012 Extra Brut Vieille Vigne de Levant is another standout in this range from Pierre and Sophie Larmandier. It possesses tremendous intensity and tons of pure power. Lemon confit, apricot, spice, marzipan and dried herbs saturate the palate in a Champagne endowed with serious concentration. The 2012 is dense, rich and full of personality. These 50-70 year-old vines confer notable complexity. The 2012 was vinified in neutral oak and bottled with dosage of two grams per liter. Disgorged: June, 2021."

Wine Advocate (William Kalley) 95+ points! "Still tightly wound after its disgorgement in April 2021, the 2012 Extra-Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Vieille Vigne du Levant offers up an inviting bouquet of pear, peach, orange zest, freshly baked bread and pastry cream. Full-bodied, rich and concentrated, it's an elegantly muscular, layered wine, with lively acids and a pinpoint mousse, concluding with a resonant finish. Despite its flesh and power, it's still tightly wound, so at least a few years' patience is recommended."
