One of the great grower houses in the Cote des Blancs, we have been following these Champagnes for years. Fantastic, terroir-driven wines planted on almost pure chalk farmed biodynamically with the utmost attention to detail in and out of the cellar. It was a pleasure tasting here a few years back and made our love for this estate flourish. 'Terre de Vertus' comes from a single parcel of vines located mid-slope in the village of Vertus. This plot has incredible minerality and balance, and after pressing is transferred to cask where it spends a year aging on the fine lees. Afterward, the champagne is bottled and spends five years sur latte before disgorged at 0g/l. A top effort for this cuvee, harnessing the power of the 2012 vintage while still remaining very energetic at the core.
Decanter 94 points! "Terre de Vertus Blanc de Blancs is a powerful and dense Premier Cru with very complex aromas of hazelnut, dried flowers, citrus and smoke. Perfectly vinous, the palate is opulent, incredibly long and scintillating."
Antonio Galloni 93+ points! "The 2012 Brut Nature Blanc de Blancs Brut Nature 1er Cru Terre de Vertus is powerful, dense and also surprisingly tightly wound given the richness of the year. Readers will have to be patient with the 2012, as it is quite closed in on itself today. Dried pear, green apple, citrus, smoke, licorice and dried herbs open up over time, but the 2012 offers a decidedly austere and nervy expression of Chardonnay at this stage. Even so, the interplay of power and crystalline intensity is compelling. Non-dosé."
