2012 Legras & Haas Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Millésimé
A Champagne we offered many years ago like RL Legras, Haas & Legras is based out of Chouilly. Things often get very complicated within family wine estates throughout France, and it is no different for the Legras family that split their holdings a couple of decades ago. We've had a few clients stumble upon the Legras & Haas Domaine over the years in search of RL Legras, and every time they have been pleasantly surprised at how good quality has been. 2012 is the current Millesime release from Legra & Haas led by Francois Legras, who in his life has rarely left the village of Chouilly since 1937 and was raised with a passion for vines that his father bestowed. Francois is a true Chouilly original and spends his mornings inspecting the vines. The Blanc de Blancs Millesime is a special wine for Legras & Haas, showing some of the best that this House offers and is only made in vintages deemed worthy by Francois. It is a wine built upon structure and promising aging potential. The Legras & Haas team constantly looks for a mark of originality that sets the vintage apart and a youthful austerity to coincide with its aging capability. While we think of 2012 as a Pinot Noir vintage for Champagne, there was some exceptional Chardonnay grown as well but was overshadowed by the hype of the red-skinned grapes. However, Chardonnay from 2012 is incredibly fresh, translating very well here, and this is a Champagne that delivers intense freshness with palpable richness. Incredibly nuanced and complex, the House says it builds even more complexity after five years, but ten or more is when it really starts to shine. It's been ten years now, and this is showing very well. 2012 is one of Francois' favorite vintages of all time next to 1988, 1990, 1995, and 2008. Sourced from many similar plots as RL Legras, this is on the level of the 2012 RL Legras Presidence and at slightly lower pricing making this an incredible buy for Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs with age. We have very friendly pricing here, and it is not a Champagne to miss!
