We tried a few 2012s from Paul Bara yesterday, and they were exceptional. It is a fantastic vintage for Pinot Noir, and being in a village specializing in Pinot is a double win. The transparency and purity of this vintage is outstanding, with excellent depth and complexity showing beautiful precision. Next to the Special Club, this is one of the flagships of the House and is truly remarkable in 2012. We were able to get a few more cases of this at our original low pricing, and it's one vintage of Comtesse from Bara that shouldn't be missed.
Paul Bara is one of the leading producers in Bouzy, a commune of Champagne known for its incredible Pinot Noir, and today we have the new release for their Tete de Cuvee, Comtesse Marie de France. Paul Bara only makes a limited amount of this Champagne in the best vintages, and seeing that Pinot Noir was the all-star grape in 2012, this Blanc de Noirs should be one of the best of all time for Bara. Sourced some the best of Paul Baras 9.5 hectares of Grand Cru Pinot Noir, the Comtesse is the ultimate expression of freshness and intensity. It is a deep and complex wine with beautiful mature notes that weave through pure fruits and candied notes with a nuttiness and excellent minerality. Though it is a generous Champagne, it has incredible balance with excellent acidity. As mentioned, this has the potential to be the best bottle of Comtesse ever, and we are the first to have this new release in the USA. This is one to consider at this low pricing when thinking of the best bottles of 2012 grower Champagne.
