2013 Jean Tardy Gevrey Chambertin Champerrieres VV$29.99
Here is another nice red Burgundy close out deal. Domaine Jean Tardy has several lieu -dit vineyards which are from old vines that make excellent village wines. Tardy owns .30ha of vines planted in 1958 in this vineyard. The soil here is shallow clay, limestone, and silt. The Tardy’s employ Lutte raisonnée viniculture, and this wine sees about 1/3 new oak and is left in barrel about 16 months. The wines are bottled un-fined, and unfiltered. A very vineyard driven wine that is classic Gevrey in character and should drink well over the next 5 to 10 years!
Vinous (Steve Tanzer) 91 pts! (Domaine Jean Tardy Gevrey-chambertin Champerrier Vieilles Vignes) Bright, dark ruby-red. Initially very closed and difficult to taste, but delicate, highly floral notes of blackberry, violet and crushed stone emerged with aeration. Pungent salty minerality energizes the middle palate of this concentrated, soil-driven wine. This opened nicely with air, eventually showing a silky texture, sappy intensity and excellent inner-mouth vibrancy. Finishes with suave tannins and excellent length. More minerally than the Nuits Bas de Combe but not quite as complex today. (Drink between 2019-2026)
