Jose Michel is one of the best values in all of Special Club Champagne. In its humble, low-key demeanor, Jose Michel's Special Club, as Champagne guru Richard Juhlin notes, is alongside Krug as one of the most iconic wines that feature Pinot Meunier. They are now, of course, joined by many on the Montagne de Reims, but it is in Jose Michel's cellars that the greatness of this grape can be experienced going back over 70 years, and we have been lucky enough to try a few very memorable bottles. Jose Michel uses 100-year-old Pinot Munier vines and 60+-year-old Chardonnay for a 50/50 blend. A wine of density, intensity, and depth though it always shows a surprising amount of refinement and elegance. Always great Champagne and a fitting vintage for the house style. Jose Michel Special Club is a fantastic buy for those that stay on Champagne's grower-side and is an excellent bottle from one of the Original Pinot Meunier Masters that was doing it before it was cool.
