2013 Philipponnat Champagne Grand Cru Cuvée 1522 Extra-Brut 1.5L

$169.99
2013 Philipponnat Champagne Grand Cru Cuvée 1522 Extra-Brut 1.5L
We have the new release of 1522 in Magnum from Philipopnnat, which is from the excellent 2013 vintage. An homage to the year Philipponnat was founded, 1522, sees some of the houses' best grand cru vines and is a tribute to their house style and success. 2014 looks to be one of the most fantastic editions of all time, even besting top bottles like 2012 and 2008. 2013 is mostly Pinot Noir this year which is the house's strength, with an official blend of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay. The Pinot Noir is sourced mainly from their historic Leon vineyard in Ay, with the Chardonnay coming from Verzy. 1522 is vinified partially in oak barrels with no Malolactic fermentation, which builds tremendous complexity with age while retaining freshness. 2013 is a generous vintage for the 1522 and shows the more expressive and indulgent side of this Cuvee with notes of caramel, toasted brioche, acacia honey, and spice, with ripe fruits like apricot and peach finishing long with a fresh mineral-tinged and acacia flavors. This spent eight years on the lees and was disgorged with a 4.25-gram dosage; out of magnum, it will be spectacular. We have the only magnum bottles of 2013 available in the USA, which is a very hard-to-find size for the 1522, and these are genuinely some of the only 1.5-liter bottles available from any vintage.
