This is a gorgeous bottle of Rose Champagne, and the best we have ever tasted from Vilmart. While the 2012 version has some better press we love the restraint, focus, and minerality of 2013. This is a vineyard driven 2013 that rivals the top Tete de Cuvee Rose of the vintage at a fraction of their prices. Bravo!
This is the first time we have offered this newer Rose Cuvee from Vilmart, one of our favorite grower producers. For five generations, Vilmart has worked very hard to make some of the best Champagnes possible out of the village of Rilly-la-Montagne at the base of the Montagne de Reims. Headed by Laurent Champs, Vilmart encompasses 11 hectares of vines which are tended with the utmost care for the environment taking a sustainable approach that is void of herbicides and pesticides with multiple environmental certifications, promoting biodiversity. The age of the vines is also worth mentioning averaging 35 years old with portions reaching 60. The Emotion rose made its debut in 2012 and was an instant success taking the place of the Grand Cellier Rubis as the house's top vintage Rose. Emotion is a blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay from the oldest vines belonging to Vilmart, receiving its color from the Saignee method. Vinified in 228-liter oak barrels where it ages for ten months, this Rose sees no malolactic fermentation and, after bottling, spends 60 months on the lees. Emotion is an incredible Rose touching on every aspect that makes a good Champagne, from complexity and depth to power and elegance and everything in between. It's a masterpiece and one of grower Champagnes best Rose's. 2013 is the current release for this Cuvee and should be another knockout. We have very friendly pricing here, and at this rate, it is not a bottle to miss.
Wine Advocate (William Kelley) 93+ points! "Disgorged in March 2020, Vilmart's 2013 Brut Emotion wafts from the glass with aromas of pear, tangerine, red berries and hazelnuts. Medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, it's concentrated and structured, with chalky extract, racy acids and a pillowy mousse. If anything, this is more reserved than its 2013 counterpart, and it will reward some bottle age."
