2013 Vincent Girardin Puligny Montrachet Les Combettes$79.99
The white Burgundies from Vincent Girardin have really surprised me in a good way the last several years. The wines have not had any pre-mox issues that I have come across, and they have been very true to the vineyards they were sourced from. Their Puligny Montrachet Combettes was one of the additions when Girardin bought the Henri Clerc white Burgundy holdings over a decade ago. The bottle we just tasted was a wonderful vineyard driven example of the vintage with Meursault richness (due to the vineyard proximity to Meursault), and the cut and focus of Puligny Montrachet. Drinkable now this should age another 3 to 5 years no problem. Only 48 bottles available!
Vinous (Steve Tanzer) 92 pts! Bright, light, green-tinged yellow. Discreet perfume of citrus fruits, white peach, smoky oak and flowers; smells sweet. Suave and pliant on the palate but with well-integrated acidity giving energy and lift to the middle palate. Balanced, firmly structured and long on the aftertaste. (Drink between 2019-2026)
