A fantastic vintage for the Blanc de Blancs from Delamotte, 2014 is on par with the 2012 and is a beautiful example of this excellent Champagne House. We offered magnums a few weeks ago, but this time we have some 750s on the way, which are due to arrive in September. However, there are a limited amount of Magnums remaining, which are available for $199.99 if interested. This is another exciting iteration of Delamotte's excellent Blanc de Blancs, even taking a slight lead over 2012 as one of the best of all time.
The sister House to Salon, Delamotte, has produced excellent Champagne in Mesnil-sur-Oger for 250 years. Many of our clients are familiar with this address and the 2012 vintage, which was fantastic. Unfortunately, 2012 is finished, but the new 2014 Release from Delamotte is equally as impressive and another exceptional iteration of this great Blanc de Blancs.
Delamotte is one of our go-to Blanc de Blancs, and while we thought 2012 was going to be a tough one to beat, the House pulled it off and surprised us with the 2014 release.
Powerful yet very refined with effortless depth, Delamotte is a different style than Salon, a little richer but made with the same integrity one would expect from one of Champagne's top houses, retaining the beautiful freshness of this vintage. Once again, this Blanc de Blancs has it all with focused acidity, beautiful fruit, and excellent minerality.
Vinous (Antonio Galloni) 94 points! "The 2014 Blanc de Blancs is seriously impressive. Ample in feel, Delamotte is especially rich in 2014, and yet there is plenty of freshness to balance things out. This is an especially savory style for Delamotte, and one that works so well. Dried lemon peel, pastry, almond, dried herbs and chamomile open in a beautifully translucent Blanc des Blancs that marries power and finesse. I can’t wait to see how it ages. (Drink between 2024 - 2039)"
Wine Advocate (William Kelley) 94 points! "Delamotte's just-released 2014 Blanc de Blancs has turned out very well indeed, opening in the glass with scents of citrus zest, crisp orchard fruit, fresh bread and wet stones. Medium to full-bodied, chiseled and incisive, with excellent depth at the core, racy acids and a chalky finish, this isn't as muscular as the 2008 or 2012, but it has real cut and persistence and should age very gracefully indeed."
Burghound 93 points! "An elegant, airy and complex nose offers up plenty of that lovely toasty/yeasty character that adds interest to the pretty aromas of pear, apple and just sliced citrus. There is equally good depth to the delicious, intense and rich medium-bodied flavors that are supported by a firm and moderately fine mousse, all wrapped in a lingering, sappy and nicely dry finish. This is really quite classy and despite being relatively young, this is already drinking well. With that said, I would be inclined to cellar it for another 3 to 5 years first. (Drink starting 2024)"
