Henri de Villamont falls into the same category that Charles Noellat, Cellier de Croix Blanche, and Pierre de Crillon. These are Negotiant winemakers that produce excellent values from esteemed vineyard sites. Even though these are not Domaine wines, they are some of the best buys in Burgundy, are made with integrity to the vineyard, and are more often than not ex-domaine, which is the case here. Chatelots is one of the great premier crus of Chambolle and produces very elegant and typically more delicate wine than other areas of Cote de Nuits, located almost right in the middle of Chambolle. The 2014 is in a great drinking window right now and should be beautiful over the next 5 to 10 years. This is a smart buy for the Burgundy drinker at one of the lowest rates we have ever seen Chatelots.
Decanter 93 points "Ethereal red fruit and spice characters, a silky textured palate and a savoury finish."
Wine Enthusiast (Roger Voss) 92 points! "Still firm and with dry tannins, this is a structured wine, with red fruits and acidity behind the concentrated texture. It suggests the succulent ripe fruitiness that will develop as the wine ages. Drink this generous wine from 2021."
