2014 Le Domaine d'Henri Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume Vieilles Vignes

$49.99
2014 Le Domaine d'Henri Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume Vieilles Vignes
A not well-known Domaine in Chablis, Le Domaine d'Henri is owned by the Laroche family and is a collection of some of the oldest vines the family owns, dating back to the 30s. This is a project started by Michel Laroche to revitalize his grandfather Henris' Domaine using his old vine parcels to create a classic and expressive Chablis. The parcel of Fourchaume that goes into the Vieilles Vignes was partially planted in 1964, with a subsequent planting in 1999. These old vines bring depth and concentration to the wine while the younger vines give energy and vivacity, creating a beautiful and dynamic interplay. While a little shy on release, this is starting to really open up beautifully and is in a great spot to enjoy now, still showing the freshness and tightly knit mineral character but with some of the captivating nuances that Chablis acquires with age. The 2014 vintage is outstanding and one of the best in the past ten years for Chablis, with very few bottles from the vintage remaining at reasonable pricing, making this a special find for the Chablis lover. We have pricing here on some of the only bottles available in the USA, but only a few cases are available, so don't miss them!

Jasper Morris MW (Inside Burgundy) 93 points! "Pale colour, a touch of reduction on otherwise opulent fruit. Only a hint, and this is really lovely on the palate, until a very faintly grilled note at the finish. Succulent and generous though. DIAM 30"

Vinous 92+ points! "Very closed nose hints at lemon zest, grapefruit pith and mint. A step up in intensity and grip from the basic Fourchaume, with a lovely touch of lemon drop sweetness. At once chewy and fine-grained, with a long, penetrating finish featuring real thrust. More backward than the regular Fourchaume."
