2014 Selbach-Oster Riesling Kabinett$14.99
We were looking thru some suppliers inventory yesterday, and this one really jumped out at us. Selbach-Oster is a top producer in the Germany’s Mosel river valley, and fashions very classic Rieslings. Now with a little bit of age this wine is really a gorgeous example of the Riesling grape for an absolute steal. Normally a $25+ bottle we bought all the suppliers remaining stock to give you this great deal!
Vinous (David Schildknecht) Sourced from Zeltinger Himmelreich and Bernkasteler Schlossberg, this bottling delivers juicy apple and cherry cider backed by merely discreet sweetness (even at 35 grams of residual sugar), leading to a lusciously sustained and clear though simple finish vividly underlain by wet stone. Improbably, considering the vintage, this is as fine a Selbach generic Kabinett as I can recall. (I like to remain conservative in my estimates of ageworthiness. But Johannes Selbach blindsided me in September 2015 with a delicious, still-fresh generic just-off-dry “Hochgewächs” bottling from 1989!)
