2015 Fanti Brunello di Montalcino Vallocchio


This Brunello should be one of the top values of the great 2015 vintage. Fanti farms organically and takes meticulous care of their vineyards. They only harvest perfect fruit and do a strict sorting before adding the grapes to the stainless-steel fermenters. They do a gentle pump over during the fermentation process then put the wine into 50% new oak and 50% older large oak barrels where they’re aged for 30 months. The wine is then bottled un-fined and un filtered. Some great press from James Suckling, and I’m sure there will be more glowing reviews to follow!

James Suckling 97 pts! What a nose of dried meat, tar, tobacco, dried boysenberries, red licorice and baking spices. Hearty tannins surround the full-bodied palate from every side, wringing bursting acidity from a full-throttle core of ripe, chewy fruit. The power and intensity are undeniable, but as you seep in the rich dried spices and died meat on the finish, you catch a glimpse of crystalline acidity through the looking glass. Drink from 2025.
