2015 Feudi di San Gregorio Taurasi Riserva Piano di Montevergine

$44.99
2015 Feudi di San Gregorio Taurasi Riserva Piano di Montevergine
The wines of Taurasi are one of the treasures of Italy. Located in Irpinia in southern Italy, a historical region of the Campanian Apennines, Feudi di San Gregorio is one of the biggest and best names in the area. Here the vineyards grow among the fruit trees, woodland, olive trees, and herbs, making it a rich and biodiverse environment perfect for cultivating some incredible grapes. While Feudi di San Gregorio makes a wide range of wines, the Piano di Montevergine is one of the Estate's best wines and is exceptional in 2015. Made with 100% Aglianico, This vintage is one of the best of all time for this wine and is a lovely display of is gorgeous Black fruits, sour cherry, and spice with an inviting and velvety palate that shows elegant tannins, captivating fruit, a beautiful, mineral backbone, and a long staining finish. The 2015 is a mesmerizing bottle and one of the best wines that Feudi di San Gregorio has ever made. We have the only bottles of this one available in the USA, and its a rare and beautiful example of Aglianico from Taurasi.

Wine Advocate (Monica Larner) 96 pts! "This wine was not produced in the 2014 vintage. The excellent 2015 Taurasi Riserva Piano di Montevergine amply makes up for that gap thanks to its generous purple and black fruit. This is a terrific vintage with ample spice and smoke. Feudi di San Gregorio CEO Antonio Capaldo tells me that he likes 2015 more than 2016 and he likes 2017 best of all. I can't wait to review those finished wines over the next few years. The 2015 is more explosive and 2016 is more direct, fine and elegant. This wine shows extra volume in the mouth, making a great impact. Some of the historically best vintages of this important wine include 1999, 2001, 2010 and 2013. The jury is still out on whether this wine will be produced in the difficult 2018 vintage.
